If you have an online newsletter or blog, you can place your subscription form on your site. Always place your subscription form in a prominent position above the fold. Offer an ethical bribe to attract subscribers.
PLEASE NOTE: ‘Above the fold is sometimes used in web development to refer to the portions of a webpage that are visible without scrolling.’
This part of a web page is the best area for anything requiring an actionable response such as a subscription form, for banner ads, sidebars with product or service ads, etc.
You could place your subscription form in multiple places such as in a sidebar, above a post, inside a post, at the end of a post, in a bar at the top of your site, etc. An especially good spot for a subscription form is after any testimonials you have posted on your site.
You should also create a squeeze page as they are more effective than a subscription form on a site with multiple distractions. While the main purpose of your blog or website is to attract visitors, a squeeze page’s main purpose is to get people to join your list.
You may want to offer different ‘ethical bribes’ depending on where your subscription form is located. If subscribers join your list from your blog or newsletter site, they are primarily looking for articles that provide more information in your niche.
They may or may not be actively looking for a solution to a problem (they may not even know or acknowledge that they have a problem) so you will need to take the time and effort to find out what they are looking for, to identify problems they are having, and to find out how you can help them.
However, if they join your list from your squeeze page, you know they are looking for a solution to a problem. How do you know this? They downloaded your ethical bribe (perhaps a short report) which offers a glimpse at the solution to a problem which your product solves. These subscribers should be added to a specific email campaign that contains relevant information about their problem but leads them towards purchasing your product.
However, this does not mean you can’t add everyone to the same email campaign though. It really depends on what results you are looking for. But you will need to create different ethical bribes, different squeeze pages, and even different lists for the many products you will be producing.
