What Is The Strategy Behind Building A List?

Everyone is told that they must build an email list. However, not so many people actually understand the strategy behind it. In this article I am going to share with you the main strategy of why you need to build an email list.

Visitors and traffic

If you have a website online and someone visits your page you are relying on that person finding your webpage. It might be that you are using search engine traffic and you are depending on the search engines to bring your site to the attention of someone performing a search.

Perhaps you are obtaining your visitors from a forum in your niche and therefore you are depending on people visiting the forum clicking through to your website.

However you are obtaining your traffic if you want these people to visit your website again then either:

a) these visitors will need to bookmark your website so that they can easily come and visit again or

b) you will need to hope that those same visitors come across your website again and decide to visit!

It is obvious that if you rely on this strategy to generate traffic and more importantly repeat traffic then it is certainly not something that you can guarantee.

Taking control of traffic

The ideal situation is if you could control that traffic and be able to have visitors to your website again and again.

If you build an email list then this is exactly what you can achieve. In other words you are able to leverage the initial traffic and from then on control that traffic.

How is it done?

The critical thing is to make sure that once you have a visitor to your website that you offer something that will motivate them to sign up and become a subscriber.

You could offer a free report, free software, free tips, anything that you know your visitors would find helpful and that they will want to obtain.

Once the visitor has signed up to your email list and has received your free gift then you are able to email them again and again.

This means that you are now controlling the visibility that they have to your business. No longer do you need to rely on them stumbling across your website again.

Mutual Respect

The problem comes when marketers don’t really value their email list and forget that these are real people with real needs and the reason why they have signed up to your list is because they believe you would be able to help them.

Therefore your email campaign needs to be focused on offering help and providing value and developing a relationship that is based on mutual respect and trust so that when you come to offer your services or products you have eliminated a lot of the risk because they already know you add value your expertise.
