How and Why Comments on Your Blog Will Help Your Business Grow!

Have you ever searched for a topic and a strange return on your search takes you to a blog comment made on a random blog that had nothing to do with your search?
That in and of itself is one of the many powers of blog comments. If you write a post, as an example, about “Grape Jelly” and you want to rank well on the search engines for that topic, you should have some blog posts as well as blog comments that are using the keyword “Grape Jelly” in order to help you rank. I know this is a very basic lesson on SEO (Search Engine Optimization) but if you are targeting a niche where a couple of mentions of your targeted keyword in your blog and/or comments will help you outrank the competition.

I am often asked why I encourage my clients to have comments on their blog posts. Honestly, the answer is simple. People are very much herd animals. If someone comes to your blog and you have written and written yet no one seems to be responding, the human brain tells them that no one is reading what you have to say. If no one is reading, your words must not be important. If your words are not important, why comment, share or even come back to your blog. You see, blog comments are like setting honey out for bees. You put a little out and a few bees come. They tell their friends and more bees soon arrive. Before you know it you have enough bees to create a hive of your own.

As a professional writer, I understand that concept very well. Don’t let other people spam your website with junk comments. But encourage blog commenters to actually take the time to read your blog and post a genuine response. This is true that when you give people the option to comment on your blog, many spammers will take advantage of this. They may submit tons of junk and spam comments. But these days it’s very easy to handle this type of situation. As for example, if you are using WordPress for your blog, just install a good comment plugin such as “Akismet” on your blog and you are done! The plugin will take care of the spam comments.

Comments on your blog will surely help you grow and attract more visitors from search engines as well. Blog comments will help you grow your blog by encouraging organic growth. It will give the search engines a chance to find you and help encourage readers to respond to your posts because others are. If you seem important, you, in their mind, are important.
