What To Name Your Subscriber List

You will need to set up at least one list inside your autoresponder. While you can choose any name for your list, it should be something that is related to the niche for that list.

You will be setting up additional lists in the future so you do not want the name of the list to be too general but you do not want the name to be so narrow that you are limited as to what you can promote. For example, using ‘Internet Marketing’ for the name of your list is not a good choice as it covers too broad of a niche. Instead, name your list something narrower and more targeted to exactly what you will be promoting.

For example, if your niche is list building, the name could be something such as ‘List Building’ or ‘List Building Methods’. If you want to also promote products about SEO, then name and build a different list that contains the name and email addresses of those people interested in SEO.

Yes, while some of the people on your SEO list may also be interested in list building, the majority will not be. You can always send a link to your list building squeeze page to your SEO list for anyone interested in that niche and vice versa. The idea is that EACH list should only contain the names and email addresses that are targeted towards a very specific niche.

Since you will choose a specific list in order to create your opt-in form, you will need an easy to identify name, especially once you have multiple lists. Since your new subscribers will see the name of the list when confirming that they want to receive information from you, include the subject of your niche in the list name. ALWAYS choose a professional sounding name for your list as this name is one of the first contacts you will have with your new subscriber.

When you send out an email message, you will choose what to display in the ‘from’ field for emails sent to your list. However, your list name may be abbreviated as that field is limited to a certain number of characters. So if you decide to use the name of the list in the ‘from’ field (and you should use either your name or the name of the list to identify who sent the email message), either name the list something short or check what it looks like when abbreviated.

PLEASE NOTE: The exact number of characters allowed depends on several factors including which email service someone uses, their browser and what device they are using. The minimum character length I have found is 11 characters for Outlook 2010 1024 x 768 px on a mobile device but that email provider is probably not used by a lot of people nowadays. 18 characters is the lowest limit for more recent mobile devices. I suggest that you use this number as many people nowadays are using their mobile devices to check their emails.
